My new car

When my mom died, she left me her Passat – a car that she really didn’t want but it was convienent. The Passat didn’t have a sunroof and had some basic features. If I had lived at home, I might of gotten her into her dream car, a Mercedes but there was never the right timing. Tom drove the U-Haul while I drove the Passat from California to Colorado, praying that there wouldn’t be any snow or ice. This was in December 2017.
Like Mom, I wasn’t a fan of the Passat but I kept it for awhile. It was a decent second car and I could feel Mom in the car. It was a great place to feel her presence. In 2019, Denver had this huge hail storm – extremely intense. People got alot of new roofs because of it. The Passat suffered major hail damage and I got a check for $5000 from State Farm.
While I’m thinking about repair places to take the car, it finally dawned me to use the money to get a new car! I got a little money for the Passat on the trade in and had the $5000 insurance check. I picked Autobahn GTI because it reminded me of the fun I had with my first car, 1969 MGB – a high school graduation present. My friend/massage therapist loved VW cars and constantly raved about his GTI. He got me interested in them – and introduced me to his salesperson.
We had to wait like a month or more for the car – they didn’t have Autobahns in Colorado and I didn’t want a white one, which were in California. Then the car suffered minor hail damage at the Port in Houston so we had to wait for the car to get fixed there and then transported to our car dealership. This picture is me picking up the car – after going through some of the bells and whistles with the salesperson.
This car is totally fun – and I have my mom’s angel hanging from the mirror to remind me of her and the Passat that made this purchase happen! Its almost like my parents buying me the MGB.
